Minutes of the last meeting & matters arising
The minutes of the previous meeting had been circulated to the Committee. They were unanimously approved by those present with no amendments. There were two matters arising that had not been included on the agenda for further discussion, being confirmation by the secretary that the booking with the Angel Hotel in respect of this year’s. Annual Dinner had now been cancelled. The second matter was that, to date, the new website hasn't been regularly updated and has immediately become redundant (old president details etc.). It was felt that we need to action this quickly before the membership stop accessing as they did with the old site. The President agreed that he would speak with MM and see what is now required to complete and for the site to "go live" with the latest information and updates etc.
Report of the President
The President reported that he had now received responses from various committee members following his "rallying cry" email and confirmed that M Argyle, A Roberts, T Helliwell and R Cann were all leaving the committee with immediate effect. He wished to place on record his thanks for their efforts and in particular, M Argyle who has always been a stalwart and great serving member of the society.
The president also mentioned that he now sits on the New Trust and that the Chairman, John Kendall had requested financial assistance from the OB in respect of their latest project.
Much discussion followed as some committee members felt that this would be wrong and that the OB should have their own project to assist the school. In addition, a further request from AC was made on behalf of the rugby group and PTFA in respect of a new project - new floodlit training area.
After much discussion on both subjects, this was passed to a future meeting although the general consensus was that we should launch our own project for the school.
Finally, the president reported that a "90's" school reunion was taking place at Belton Woods and that he would be attending. He hopes to reach out to the many old boys in attendance who may not be in the society and hopefully find help for the committee as well as adding to the numbers of the society.
Report of the Hon. Secretary
The Secretary reported that he was no longer receiving emails from the web page requesting joining details etc. He wondered whether the link is still working?
Report of the Hon Membership Secretary
The HMS confirmed that he had now sent all database information to MM as requested. He feels that we have email addresses for approximately 50% of the membership including the last 3 years leavers.
Report of the Hon Treasurer
The HT gave a brief report confirming the financial position of the society. He also mentioned that he had not received a request from the school for our annual donations to the initiative and achievement awards that are normally presented at speech night?
Report of the Headmaster
The Head Master was not present so no report was given.
Items & reports for discussion and action
- Old Granthamian /biannual update
NL confirmed that the OG had now been dispatched. He asked that a copy be placed on the new website as soon as possible (in the members' area?) It was agreed that the next update must carry a piece on Janet Phelan who sadly passed away recently. - Founders Day
The president reported that he had attended and had really enjoyed the day. It had led him to remember the Old Boys lectures that used to occur and asked why they had ceased. NW is to discuss with FH. - Annual Dinner
TS reported that he was struggling to make contact with the caterers. KD said that he would speak with the bursar to hopefully get things moving. AJ/AC will speak with Belvoir/Oldershaws re obtaining a bar and ale etc.
It was agreed that the ticket price would be £33 for all apart from the sportsmen who were participating in the rugby and football matches. Price to them was set at £20.
The speaker will be Commander Tim Elmer.
Any other business
It was reported that a sub-committee had met recently to discuss the restructuring of the committee and update of database. They will meet as and when required in the future.
